Scripture for today

The Message 1 Samuel 8:19-20 But the people wouldn't listen to Samuel. "No!" they said. "We will have a king to rule us! Then we'll be just like all the other nations. Our king will rule us and lead us and fight our battles."

A woman brought out raw meat from her freezer, her little daughter began to cry that she needed to eat meat now. She cried and cried, the astonished woman tried to explain to her wailing daughter that she couldn't eat raw meat, it needed to go through a process called cooking! She tried everything but the girl refused to be appeased. She ignored her and she went ahead to cook the meat. The girl who was now tired of crying stopped crying and watched on helplessly at the mother who was bent on giving her daughter the best. 

In life we sometimes ask God for things we don't even know are not good enough for us. God tries to shield us by denying us from having those things we feel we really need because he knows what is best for us. He cares too much for us he won't give us things we are not ready for. He is a caring and loving father who knows exactly what we need at every point in our lives. 

Some days ago, I began to thank God for all the prayers he didn't answer. I thanked him for shielding me from my selfishness.. God loves us too much he wouldn't give us exactly what we want but he will give us what we need. God protects us from all the evil we would have called upon ourselves with our desires. The people of Israel needed a king because they felt God wasn't good enough to lead them. They needed something more physical and obviously dangerous. 

Prayer: Father, thanks for shielding me from my selfishness.
