Scripture for today
1 Samuel 13:9-12 (Msg) So Saul took charge: "Bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings!" He went ahead and sacrificed the burnt offering. No sooner had he done it than Samuel showed up! Saul greeted him. Samuel said, "What on earth are you doing?" Saul answered, "When I saw I was losing my army from under me, and that you hadn't come when you said you would, and that the Philistines were poised at Micmash, I said, 'The Philistines are about to come down on me in Gilgal, and I haven't yet come before God asking for his help.' So I took things into my own hands, and sacrificed the burnt offering."
I was studying the life of Saul and taking note of all the things that made God prefer David to him. Saul was a man handpicked by God to give the people of Isreal their wish of a king. He was a man who was led by his feelings and what was happening around him. There are a lot of lessons to learn from the statements Saul made in the Scriptures above. Saul was a man moved by what he saw, he was easily moved by the circumstances around him so his faith in God wasn't firm. He saw that he was loosing his army therefore he decided to take things into his hands.
I remember many times when I have tried to take things into my hands. Times when I felt God was showing up late and I needed to take matters and deal with them my own way. Out of those times I always lost something. I always lost my self and lost God's presence in the process. Just like Saul do you feel you are running out of time? Does it feel like God is showing up late in your situation? I sometimes wish I waited just one more minute or one more day or probably one more year.
Dear Friend, God is never late. If he tells you to wait, he means it.
Prayer: Father, help me to be patient.
