Scripture for today

The Message 1 Corinthians 6:16-20 There's more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, "The two become one." Since we want to become spiritually one with the Master, we must not pursue the kind of sex that avoids commitment and intimacy, leaving us more lonely than ever—the kind of sex that can never "become one." There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love, for "becoming one" with another. Or didn't you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don't you see that you can't live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.

Did it happen last night under the sheets?  Did you commit the very sin you confessed and promised God never to commit again?  Oh! You really didn't want to do it but it happened again. You must be feeling so stupid and used. You can't even afford to pray right now because the angels in heaven will turn their face in total disgust. Yeah!! The disgust and shame you feel the night after. You wonder how you would be able to recover from this very act of sexual sin. 

One thing you need to know is you need to acknowledge that what you did was terribly wrong and was a sin not just against God but also against your own body, also a sin against your future spouse. That acknowledgment is important because it is the very beginning of repentance. Acknowledge that you are weak within you to stay out of this. Your power will certainly fail you again and again. Ask God for strength and courage. 

The next thing is make a commitment to Gods standard of purity. God has a standard. His standard for us as singles is to present ourselves holy to him. He needs you to rely on his strength to take you through this season. God's standard starts from our heart. We need to watch what we allow dwell in our hearts. Let your heart start your commitment to God's standard then other things will certainly follow. If in your heart you believe a little day dreaming about that young man/woman you were with last night isn't bad then the struggle will be tough. Matthew 5:27 Your heart is deceitful just as the Bible says that's why you shouldn't follow it just anywhere it leads us. I remember when I used to struggle greatly, it was almost as if I just couldn't go a week without falling into one sexual sin or the other. I didn't realize that the real battle was in my heart (Matthew 15:16). Your heart is the battle field. Wage your war. 

Prayer: Father, help me overcome and recover from sexual sins.
