Scripture for today

The Message Song of Songs 5:2-3 I was sound asleep, but in my dreams I was wide awake. Oh, listen! It's the sound of my lover knocking, calling! "Let me in, dear companion, dearest friend, my dove, consummate lover! I'm soaked with the dampness of the night, drenched with dew, shivering and cold." "But I'm in my nightgown—do you expect me to get dressed? I'm bathed and in bed—do you want me to get dirty?"

Selfishness in a relationship gives one person the power to control the course of things and leaves the other person powerless. The lover in this Scripture is certainly one of the most selfish people I have read about in the Bible. Her lover was in desperate need for her to open her door to him but all she could think about is how she has gotten herself ready for bed and CAN'T think of doing the process again. This shows the unwillingness to act rather than the impossibility of the action. She was unwilling to work for her true love who she claim to be her lover. 

Selfishness is the number one killer of our relationships, when we are not willing to go through the trouble to help the other person out then something is terribly wrong with us. For the woman this is her own way of controlling the relationship she asks herself "Why should I run as soon as he calls for help, let me wait a while"  She was reluctant to help out, she was thinking about her own comfort first not that of her lover. Selfishness is the number one killer of our relationships. We need to drop it, we need to consider each others needs. You know the areas which you have been selfish, you know areas where you want to control the relationship. Your relationship with God seem to be one which we want to control desperately. Stop trying to control everything around you trust God. 

Prayer: Father, help me get rid of selfishness.
