LOVE LETTERS|DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SINGLES|DAY 343

Scripture for today

The Message Psalms 9:1-2 I'm thanking you, God, from a full heart, I'm writing the book on your wonders. I'm whistling, laughing, and jumping for joy; I'm singing your song, High God.

In A Second Helping of Chicken Soup for the Soul, Rev. John R. Ramsey tells how in one church a certain person provided him with a rose boutonniere for the lapel of his suit every Sunday. At first he really appreciated it, but then it sort of became routine. Then one Sunday it became very special.

As he was leaving the Sunday service, a young boy walked up to him and said, "Sir, what are you going to do with your flower?" At first the preacher didn't know what the boy was talking about. When it sank in, he pointed to the rose on his lapel and asked the boy, "Do you mean this?"

The boy said, "Yes, sir. If you're just going to throw it away, I would like it."

The preacher smiled and told him he could have the flower and then casually asked what he was going to do with it. The boy, who was probably no more than 10 years old, looked up at the preacher and said, "Sir, I'm going to give it to my granny. My mother and father divorced last year. I was living with my mother, but she married again and wanted me to live with my father. I lived with him for a while, but he said I couldn't stay; so he sent me to live with my grandmother. She is so good to me. She cooks for me and takes care of me. She has been so good to me that I wanted to give her that pretty flower for loving me."

When the little boy finished, the preacher could hardly speak. His eyes filled with tears and he knew he had been touched by God. He reached up and unpinned the rose. With the flower in his hand, he looked at the boy and said, "Son, that is the nicest thing that I've ever heard, but you can't have this flower because it's not enough. If you'll look in front of the pulpit, you'll see a big bouquet of flowers. Different families buy them for the church each week. Please take those flowers to your granny because she deserves the very best."

Then the boy made one last statement, which Rev. Ramsey said he always will treasure. The boy said, "What a wonderful day! I asked for one flower but got a beautiful bouquet."

That's the thankful spirit. That's the gratitude attitude. It's that attitude that should guide our giving and our lives. Like that boy's granny, God has blessed us so much. God has been so good to us that giving shouldn't even be a question. It should just flow from us naturally.

1 Peter 4:10 AMPC

As each of you has received a gift (a particular spiritual talent, a gracious divine endowment), employ it for one another as [befits] good trustees of God's many-sided grace [faithful stewards of the extremely diverse powers and gifts granted to Christians by unmerited favor].

There came a point in my life when I felt very alone, I knew I needed to work on my human relationship skills, I tried these all they worked, still getting there but I try everyday intentional to improve. You can't minister to people if you don't have the basic human relationship skills. This can be interpretated as the fastest way to make friends.

Let me give you the “Ten Commandments of Human Relations.” They are powerful and easy-to-use, lol!!!

1)Speak kindly to people: There is nothing as nice as a cheerful word and a warm greeting.

2)Smile at people: It takes 72 muscles to frown and 14 to smile. Make it a habit to smile warmly at people. You will make a lasting impression.

3)Call people by their name: The sweetest music to anyone’s ear is the sound of their own name. Memorize people’s names and watch how they react to you!

4)Be friendly and helpful: Don’t be in such a hurry that you come off rude. Remember to walk slowly through the crowd and connect with people!

5)Be cordial: Speak and act as if everything you do is a genuine pleasure.

6)Be interested in people: If you truly want to connect with people, be interested in their lives, opinions, struggles and dreams. If you want to ask for a hand you must first touch a heart.

7)Be generous with praise: People desperately need encouragement. Be generous with encouragement both publicly and privately.

8)Be considerate about the feelings of others: If you will value other people’s feelings (even if you can’t relate) they will value you!

9)Be thoughtful of the opinions of others: People want to be heard. Value their opinion even if you don’t agree.

10)Be alert to give service: Be willing to help others reach the top! If you bring out the best in others, then the best will be brought out in you.

Take these “Ten Commandments” and live by them! Go over them with deep consideration and be honest about the one or more areas that you need to develop. If your serious about success then you must be serious about your relationship to others. You will never reach the top alone!
