Scripture for today

Mark 11:13-14, 20 AMPC
And seeing in the distance a fig tree [covered] with leaves, He went to see if He could find any [fruit] on it [for in the fig tree the fruit appears at the same time as the leaves]. But when He came up to it, He found nothing but leaves, for the fig season had not yet come. And He said to it, No one ever again shall eat fruit from you. 20 And His disciples were listening [to what He said]. In the morning, when they were passing along, they noticed that the fig tree was withered [completely] away to its roots.

The fig tree is like many of us. We look so churchy and fruitful, we attend all prayer meetings and even hold high positions in church. We look like we communicate with God and praise him all the time. We even don't eat everyday because we are fasting. We are religious to the core but lack the fruits of Christ. When you take up praying, fasting or even attending church activities higher than helping people around you who are in need then you are gradually becoming like the fig tree. Jesus said a parable about the good Samaritan, so many of us talk about the part where he helped someone who was in need and how bad the religious leaders who passed him by were.

The religious leaders didn't just pass him by because they were bad people, they passed him by because they were obviously running for one meeting or church activity. Let's never look away from the people around us and get so busy doing what we were not sent to do. Jesus called us to be salts, and if we loose our saltness how can we regain it. The fruits of a true Christian is seen in his or her lifestyle not just how much  we can quote scriptures.

Prayer: Father, help me bear fruits.
