Scripture for today
Luke 12:20-21 AMP
But God said to him, You fool! This very night they [the messengers of God] will demand your soul of you; and all the things that you have prepared, whose will they be? [Job 27:8; Jer. 17:11.] So it is with the one who continues to lay up and hoard possessions for himself and is not rich [in his relation] to God [this is how he fares].
Lawrence was a deacon serving in Rome in the third century when a wave of persecution broke out. When Pope Sixtus and others were killed Lawrence knew it was only a matter of time before they came for him. As keeper of the Church’s goods, he had already been responsible for giving alms to the poor. Now he started giving them even more.
Soon Lawrence was called before Roman officials who demanded he hand over the church’s treasure. He replied that indeed the church was rich and asked for three days to get everything in order.
The days passed and the Roman officials arrived not to a church filled with silver and gold but one filled with the poor, blind, lame and leprous. “Here are the treasures of the church” declared Lawrence.
The official were furious and in the year 258 had Lawrence executed.
Lawrence was right about the treasures of the church was he not? Remember we are God's temple now so where is your treasure? What ever blessing you have right now is never for your use only God has blessed you so you can bless people around you who are struggling. All you have is given to you by God for you to use to his glory.
Just like Lawrence our treasure should be the lives we have been able to touch and save from the shackles of poverty. The number of people you have been able to rescue is how much you have lived. Make it a point of duty to show love the right way. To store up treasures the right way. Touch as many people as you can with the wealth you have. Sometimes we think our only wealth is money but we have the wealth of time, knowledge and skills too.
Prayer : Father I have come to understand the importance of giving, help me give to people around me.
