Scripture for today
The Message 2 Samuel 13:12-14 "No, brother!" she said, "Don't hurt me! This kind of thing isn't done in Israel! Don't do this terrible thing! Where could I ever show my face? And you—you'll be out on the street in disgrace. Oh, please! Speak to the king—he'll let you marry me." But he wouldn't listen. Being much stronger than she, he raped her.
Sexual abuse remains one of the worst form of abuse. We have studied the affair of David which was in chapter 11&12 of 2 Samuel and today we are looking at a great abuse that occurred in his own house. One of the great lessons we should take away from this abuse is the fact that we won't always bear the consequences of our actions alone some innocent people might be hurt too. God had forgiven David and he gave him a new son who he loved so much (2 Samuel 12:25)but that doesn't mean that he wouldn't reap the very seeds he sowed. What he committed was just adultery and murder but the evil that befell his household was great and intense.
When a person is forced to have sex against their will, it damages a lot of things in them. The damage starts from the mind and affects every other area. People who are abused become very negative, suspicious, judgemental especially about themselves and others, they are always worried and unsettled. They tend to become controlling people sometimes making a decision to protect themselves at all times. They sometimes get very selfish and very conscious of how they want to get their lives under control.
Most times abuse comes with shame, an inner feeling of shame and disgust that does seem to go of easily. Just like Tamar, the shame is great and intense. I have good news for every abused person, Jesus took all your shame, all your abuse, all you inner guilt and he nailed it on the cross of Calvary. He took care of me, I almost have no memory of it again because he took and nailed it on the cross with him. He took all your shame, he knows it isn't your fault but even if it was he is here to set you free and give you a fresh start.
Prayer: Father, I believe you have a fresh start for me through your blood.
