Scripture for today

2 Samuel 11:2 (MSG) One late afternoon, David got up from taking his nap and was strolling on the roof of the palace. From his vantage point on the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was stunningly beautiful.

Last time we talked about David's affair we got to know that his affair came upon him when he got to place when he was resting from all the battles he was ordained to fight. We got a lot of lessons from there as singles and now one of the lessons we are going to learn today is that most times we walk into tempting situations by ourselves. So many times people cry and wail when they find themselves in the fallen state due to temptation but the truth still remains that most times we walk into the tempting situations through the gates of our hearts.

We have different gates, our eye is a gate so also our ear. It is important as a believer we watch things we allow to gain entrance into our lives. In the bid to live a holy and sanctified life we need to make a lot of sacrifices. There are some places you won't visit,there are some websites you won't visit there are some songs you won't even listen to  or even movies you won't watch because they lead you towards a direction that is not pointing towards eternity. A time came in my life when I found myself in a web of pornography. I prayed and cried to God and one day he laid it in my heart that most times I would have not gotten to those sites if at first their wasn't a desire to know more.

David say this beautiful woman and he stared on. What if he fled? What if he looked away? Well he didn't because she stirred up a desire within him. A desire which was certainly lustful. As singles, let's stop walking ourselves into tempting situations and stay there. Let's stop allowing our flesh to lead us rather let's stir up the spirit of God which is within us to lead us into all truth and freedom.

Prayer: Father, help me not to be led by my desires but by your spirit.
