Scripture for Today

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. (ESV)

Can you die for a friend? That's a question that has been on my mind of a while. Friendship is very important its one of the most valuable gifts to mankind. When God created man he gave man the gift of friendship in the garden. God would come out in the cool of the evening to commune with man. When man fell, he still came and restored us to having close friendship with him.

St. Valentine's day is here and so many of us are having the best day of our life today without knowing what it really stands for. Valentine was a man who laid down his life for his believe in Christian marriage. He believed and he was performing weddings for young soldiers who were denied marriage by the Roman empire. He was a man of compassion and total love for the Gospel of Christ which is built on love. 

Jesus said there is no greater love than laying down your life for a brother who you know is helpless or even hopeless. Laying down your life does not necessarily mean dying. It also means sacrificing. 

Its Valentine's day and what can you sacrifice? Can you sacrifice your money, your intellect or even your comfort just to see that the next person is okay. It might be easier to say "I LOVE YOU" than to do the very acts of love. Love is deep, its wide, its mysterious we might not all understand it but one thing I am certain of it is that God is love and love is God.

Jesus gave his life for you, what greater love? What can you give for him? What can you give in exchange for all the great things he has been doing for you and your family?.

Prayer: Father, give me a deep understanding of your love towards me.
